De
foto's op de volgende pagina's kreeg ik juli 2003 in handen van de dochter
van
Martina
van de Gevel, die deze foto's maakte vanuit het dakraam van haar
ouderlijk huis aan de Boschdijk te Eindhoven, thv. de huidige Nieuwe Fellenoord..
Deze foto's zijn nog nooit ergens gepubliceerd en komen dus uit familiebezit.
Zovele jaren na de bevrijding komt dit dus nog voor.
Aan
het vage teken van een schoppen aas op de zijkant van de helm van de paratroopers
kun je zien dat het para's zijn van de 101ste Airborne Divisie, 506de regiment.
Waarschijnlijk zijn deze para’s van het 3de bataljon of van F Company degenen die op de Woenselsestraat of Frankrijkstraat op de 88mm kanonnen stuitten.
Zij
waren achter de vijandelijke linies gedropt in Son (Sonniuswijk) en hadden
de taak om de weg vrij te maken en de bruggen zeker te stellen om de opmars
naar Arnhem mogelijk te maken.
The
photos on the next pages I received in July 2003 from the photographer's daughter.
The photos have never been published before because all the time they were
in family possession. It still is possible that photos like these are found
60+ years after the liberation of Eindhoven. They are made at the Boschdijk
in Eindhoven, nearby the Fellenoord by Martina van de Gevel.
According to the ace of spades sign on the troopers's helmets these are troopers
from the 101st Airborne Division, 506th Regiment.
Probably they were from 3rd Bat. or F-Co. The ones who encountered the 88 mm gun at Woenselstraat-Frankrijkstraat.
They
were dropped behind enemy lines in Son (Sonniuswijk) and had to clear the
road and secure the bridges for the troops on their way to Arnhem.
Mensen
dolblij dat de bevrijding eindelijk een feit is. De jonge trooper r echts
zwaait trots met zijn pistool.
De foto's zijn gemaakt terhoogte van een toenmalige SHELL-pomp.
Very
happy people because the liberation of Eindhoven finally was a fact. The young
trooper right is proudly waving with his pistol.
The pictures are made nearbye a SHELL filling station.
Feestelijk verklede kinderen verwelkomen een trooper. (links boven) Paard en wagen waren voor de paratroopers een welkom alternatief voor het lange lopen. Waar zouden ze die vandaan gehaald hebben?
Festive dressed children are welcoming a paratrooper. (above left) Horse and wagon were a welcome alternative for walking. Were would they have got these?
Het middengedeelte van de foto hierboven heb ik vergroot (links) omdat het misschien mogelijk is de troopers te identificeren. Dat geldt wellicht ook voor degenen die op de foto's hieronder staan.
The mid part of the photo above I enhanced (left) Knowing that these men belonged to E-Company it maybe is possible to identify them. Maybe also the ones on the other photos.
