Above: Bob Lott (l) C Compagny member relaxes in the Alpes after seizure of Hitler's mountain retreat in Berchtesgaden.Later he was decorated for his role in the Battle of the Bulge. Bob told me that he also stayed near the mansions of the Nazi Party Bosses. Because he could read the maps of the many underground passages the put him in charge. From time to time US officers came to visit those mansions and Bob had to show them around. One day a US general wanted to visit the passages but when they arrived the electricity was shut off so Bob had to go back. Because it was a long walk the general offered Bob his car with the driver. Bob recalls the many times they saluted him when he passed by in that staff car. He also remembers vividly the diamonds and artwork in those mansions.
