Robert Burr Smith also stayed in the Army after W.W.II. were he became a lieutenant colonel. He commanded a Special Forces Reserve in San Francisco. In 1979 he was a special assistant from the Commander of Delta Force, the counter-terror task force at Fort Bragg. His specialties were airborne operations, light weapons, and small unit operations. However he was part of what was called the best unit in the U.S. force he would choose for Easy Company any time. He told that they had something for three years that never would be equaled. He was scheduled to go on a mission to Iran to rescue the hostages in 1980, but when the CIA learned this, it forbade him to go because he knew so many secrets. It was hard for him because he lived, worked and trained with Delta Force everyday for nearly two years. In 1980 he crashed with a hang glider and suffered severe injures. During an operation the doctors discovered a cancer in his lungs. Shortly thereafter he passed away.
Right: Max Talbert, Floyd's brother. Some weeks before the reunion he made a tour through Europe with his wife Phyllis (2e from left). This tour, organized by Stephen Ambrose Tours, took the same route Easy Company followed during WWII. On the left: Janice Moldashel from New York, was also on this tour and got in contact with the Talberts. Next to Max :Janice's daughter.

William Wingett with Mrs. Joe Domingus. Her husband was one of the Easy Company cooks. You can imagine (or not) what a hard time he had in Bastogne to prepare a hot meal. That was impossible.

Rod Bain

Jonathan, the Son of Fred "Moose" Heijliger

Paul Rogers and his friend Shirley (l) with their daughter Paula and the son of Walter "Smoky" Gordon. Paul was Walter 's best friend and was with him when he was shot by a German. That shot paralyzed him from the neck down. Paul and Jim Alley dragged him out of the foxhole and out of the woods in Bastogne in the winter of 1944.

In the tv-series you can see a British tank that Johnny Martin jumped on because he wanted to warn the tank commander for a German Tiger. During that action in Nuenen (Holland) Paul got wounded in action.

fltr.: Amos "Buck" Taylor and Charlie Kratz with their spouses. After the war Buck worked for the CIA for 25 years.

Charlie Kratz is a big Band of Brothers and 101th Airborne Division fan.

Bill Guarnere (r) with the sister of his late wife Frannie and Steph Leenhouwers, who is Bill's friend since he met him in his restaurant in Eindhoven in 1994.

"Shifty" Powers' family (Shifty sitting in the middle)

Shifty was from Virginia, part Indian. On one occasion in Bastogne he reported Carwood Lipton that he had spotted a tree that there wasn't the day before. Lipton had binoculars and Powers had not, but Lipton didn't see anything unusual, even after Powers pinpointed the spot for him. After a while, because Shifty insisted it had not been there the day before, Lipton saw some movement near the tree. He spotted Germans, putting an anti-aircraft battery in among the trees. Lipton asked assistance, and because Shifty discovered almost a mile away a tree that there had not been the day before, the germans were attacked and within an hour the place was deserted.

Betty Taylor Hill is the sister of Lester Taylor who was killed in action in Best (The Netherlands-Operation Market Garden) on November 19, 1944. I got in contact with her through my web site because she was looking for the Son family that cared for her brothers grave site from 1944 till 1948. In Phoenix we met her for the first time. A warm and hearty encounter. It felt like we knew each other for years already.
