During the last day of our stay in Bastogne we visited the villages were Easy Company stayed during their last days of the war in Belgium. One of those villages was important for Walt Sawosko because there his brother Carl was killed in action by a German sniper.
The Sawosko's were in the War with three brothers at the same time. Walt's other brother was wounded in action when hit in the chest, very close to his heart. It was a miracle he survived, with the help of a German medic.

Carl Sawosko

Walt Sawosko standing at or very close to the spot where his brother Carl was hit in his forehead and killed instantly by a German sniper. On the map the spot is marked where Walt and his wife are standing (X). The map also shows the house from where the sniper fired.

Walt Sawosko next to the house from where the sniper killed his brother Carl. He was in the upper window. After Easy Company had located him they took him under fire and killed him. After 61 years the marks from the attack of Easy are still visible.
